End of year & 2021 focus areas message – from The IBC Network Foundation Australia

For many reasons, 2020 has been the ‘year that was’ and the one which most of us would like to firmly close the door on.

Sadly, the year began with the passing of our founder, Julie Fishlock.  Her passing was quickly followed by the arrival of COVID-19 to Australian shores which presented a number of personal and commercial challenges to many of us with some uncertainty still remaining; especially with the fresh COVID-19 cases for NSW in December. This has been confronting for many reasons and it impacted our views of longer term planning, severed connections and family time, and introduced a new level of isolation.

In addition to this, we have seen through all of the social media updates, that many of you have been experiencing your own personal health challenges.  We are grateful to have the community that we do, which cares and supports each person along the way.

We also want to reflect on the positives of 2020 from a foundation perspective.  In spite of an inability at times to fundraise in the COVID restricted world, we have found unique and different ways to do so. For example, our Global #ScarsOfStrength campaign, individual campaigns raising money in lieu of birthday gifts, local café collections and a young 14 year old daughter dying her hair to support the raising of funds.

We wanted to take a moment to say thank you for all of these amazing individual efforts and contributions.  All funds raised, no matter how small, enable us to be in a different position longer term, to make a difference in IBC education and fund research.

As we look to 2021, here’s a couple of things to share:

  • The Board and I are reviewing our strategy including:
  • What, when and how to communicate in order to support education and fundraising
  • Level of fundraising and our ultimate goals
  • Further exploration of current partnerships and collaborations into possible corporate fundraising for our foundation
  • Review of our social media strategy and website

As Chair, I would also like to hear from you. I am passionate about supporting our community and making a real difference, and so to that end, if you have some constructive feedback about what we could do more of, or differently, in 2021, then please send me an email. I will then endeavor to share the same with the Board and respond.

On behalf of the Board, I would like to thank all of you for your support, contributions and efforts in 2020. We wish you all a safe and merry end of year in whatever way you and your loved ones will celebrate it, and we look forward to sharing some new and exciting initiatives with you all in early 2021.

Kind regards

Trace
